Local, ‘award winning’ restaurants, caterers and wineries are teaming up to offer a sampling of dishes all prepared with ingredients fresh from area farms and waterways as a precursor to the statewide Buy Local Challenge in the last week of July. The “Local Flavor, Local Fare” event will be held Tuesday, June 23 at 5:30 on the square in Leonardtown. Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the programs of the Patuxent Habitat for Humanity. Stroll the square from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and enjoy the flavors of fresh ingredients grown or harvested here in Southern Maryland prepared by some of St. Mary’s best local chefs. Tickets are available from the Patuxent Habitat office and ReStore at 21768 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park. The Buy Local Challenge Week (July18-26) promotes Maryland’s family farms by challenging all Marylanders to eat locally grown foods every day during BLC week.
